New carob crop is starting to be picked up by farmers these weeks. Although many carobs are being left on the trees due to such a low prices pressure.

Carob market is going through a difficult and dangerous period. During the last weeks of August is the time when farmers start to pick up carobs, but this year many farmers are stating that they don't get a benefit from it, due to a price drop, and they are not going to harvest it, leaving the fruit fall on the ground.

This year it is said that it is a very good crop. CAROB S.A. staff has gone on a tour around Spain during the month of July and it actually is one of the best crops of the last years.

However, several Spanish newspapers have already published different articles, stating that many carob fields are being abandoned, leading to a big problem for Spanish agriculture and for the Spanish environment.

Usually during the month of September LBG prices for new crop are fixed. But for 201-2011 there is a big pressure for a price drop, and farmers are not able to cover costs for picking up the fruits.

In a few weeks, we will have information about LBG prices and we will inform our customers about it, as usual.
